Santa Monica City Hall

Santa Monica, CA

Site: 50,670 sf (City Hall), 111,245 sf (mixed use)

The Santa Monica City Hall feasibility assessment and concept design studied seismic upgrade and rehabilitation options for the historic City Hall building and opportunities for areas of new construction. The renovation plan eliminates architecturally inconsistent additions, including one that houses the Police Department, which will ultimately move to the new Public Safety Building. Portions of floors in the north and south wings are also to be demolished to address accessibility and functional needs. A new City Services Building was carefully planned to be incorporated into the overall Civic Center Specific Plan. While the City Hall building has 50,670 sf, the City Services Building plan contains approximately 111,245 sf of mixed-use space situated over below-grade structured parking. The site for this building sits on the north edge of the Town Green as proposed in the Civic Center Specific Plan and spans along Main Street with a charming pedestrian portal.
