Hayward City Hall

The four-story, 98,000-square-foot Hayward City Hall integrates a variety of municipal functions into one convenient, centralized location. Adjoining the Hayward BART Station in the city’s center, City Hall is the focal point of a larger mixed-use downtown master plan. A grand stairway within City Hall leads visitors to the second floor, where the council chamber is located. While a dramatic two-story rotunda lobby and galleria space underscore the building’s civic importance, the City Hall building employs a state-of-the-art base-isolation system for seismic protection. The overall building composition, with major and minor rotundas, creates an important link between the downtown and the multi-modal transit station. The full-block mixed-use master plan also incorporates residential townhomes, retail, and commercial uses.
