Orlando City Hall

Orlando, CA

Site: 230,000 sf (City Hall), 400,000 sf (office tower)
No. Stories: 9 stories (City Hall), 20 stories (office tower)

Orlando City Hall and the surrounding City Hall Commons reflect a new mixed-use civic, commercial, and arts district in downtown Orlando. The design for Orlando City Hall was guided by the desire to create a viable civic place utilizing classical urban prototypes in addition to the traditional regional forms. Orlando City Hall is situated on a large landscaped plaza and is used as both a civic ceremonial space and a social gathering place for the citizens of Orlando. The building design, reminiscent of great civic architecture of the past, features a 120-foot copper dome and handsome, sculptural, granite-aggregate panels. Visitors enter the building through the Great Room, a rotunda-like space that acts as the City’s ‘living room’; this space features a dramatic grand staircase which leads to the City Council Chambers.
