55 Stockton (Nat'l Center)

The National Center at 55 Stockton Street is a 130-foot tall, eight-story mixed-use project containing 135,000 square feet of retail, office and residential space. This building remains contextually relevant to its position in the Historic Union Square Retail District by retaining the architectural character and scale of the neighborhood vicinity. The iconic curved corner of the building successfully restored the splendor of the intersection while accommodating a generous sidewalk pedestrian zone for shoppers. The project was a pioneering example of urban infill demonstrating how to knit the streetwall, alluding to the rich detail of the district, and creating modern retail, office and residential opportunities. The design accommodates the complex multi-use demands and urban characteristics of this unique location.
